Just the facts ma’am. I am Sarah. I have a BA and an MA in History. I work at a library, where I am not a librarian (because I don’t have that degree.) I help people find the information they need, which usually means I help them find the movie they want to check out. It’s not a hugely fulfilling job and it’s not terribly well-paid, but I discovered long ago that I didn’t want to work at any job that required a hair net.
I am indiscriminately creative. What I mean is, I love to do all sorts of creative things and I can’t settle on just one art at which I can get really good, so I am essentially mediocre at a lot of things. I am a sometime poet. I started quilting in the last couple of years, which I do entirely by hand (I don’t know how to use a sewing machine.) I draw a little bit–mostly cartoons that I do on the job for the entertainment of my coworkers. At work I also design logos, create nearly all of our handouts and signs for various programs, and I edit and publish our in-house quarterly newsletter. I never met an art or craft that I didn’t want to try, it seems. I’d like to do calligraphy, woodworking, weaving, bookbinding, paper-making, painting, photography….
If I ever took up a completely different career path, you would probably find me as a graphic designer, architect, or large animal veterinarian.
But I am completely satisfied hanging out on my 15 acre farm, taking care of my garden and my critters.
